Tips for maintaining your FIOS

FIOS kokedamas are easy to maintain

They do not need special care, compared to other potted plants.

All WIRES come with a maintenance leaflet, so there are no questions when watering and choosing where to place them.

The best way to determine whether a plant needs water is by its weight. If the root ball is light, it means it's time to water. Another sign that the plant may need watering is the looseness of the wires that suspend it. Looseness, again, indicates that the root ball has shrunk in size and may be dehydrated.

For our living paintings, we recommend misting the moss every two days (summer) and every three days (winter). However, as with kokedama, the best tip is to place your hand on the moss and, if it's dry, mist or water it. You should place it under running water or spray it with a shower head. The wood already has a protective varnish layer to prevent damage.

  • 1. Immerse the entire plant root ball in water.

  • 2. Keep submerged for at least 5 minutes.

  • 3. Drain until it stops dripping.

Irrigation frequency varies between plants

Although watering frequency is indicated on each maintenance leaflet, you should adjust watering needs to the conditions where you find your garden.

Choose the ideal place for your FIOS to grow

Order a plant that adapts to the conditions it can offer.

You should take into account the following aspects:

    1. Sun exposure

2. Location (indoor/outdoor)

3. Ventilation and aeration

Although each plant is sold with a care leaflet, the new FIOS owner should be sensitive and care for this plant as they would any other. During the warmer months, watering frequency should be adjusted, as the plant dehydrates more quickly.

In short:
The frequency of irrigation varies according to the temperature (season) and humidity of the environment where it is located.

To water these plants, simply place them in a deep container of water, wait about 5-10 minutes for the water to seep into the soil, and let it drain before hanging them up again.

The soil and moss structure keeps moisture close to the roots for longer than ordinary pots, reducing the frequency of watering and the consequent maintenance of the plant – ideal for those who have little free time to care for plants but can't do without their company.

Feed your plant

You can fertilize your hanging plant with a fertilizer diluted in the irrigation water. You should consider the plant's nutritional requirements to ensure healthy growth and avoid over-fertilizing.

Note: Before ordering your hanging plant you must evaluate the conditions of the space where you want to hang it:

  • Is the space indoors or outdoors?
  • Do you have direct sunlight or indirect sunlight?
  • Is the space humid or dry?

These are questions that will ensure you choose the right plant for the right place and that your plant lives much longer and healthier.
