Porquê aparece cogumelos e bolor no meu kokedama?

Why are mushrooms and mold growing on my kokedama?

During this time of year, autumn and winter, it is very common for fungi to appear on our kokedamas, such as mushrooms and mold.

To help you care for your kokedama, here's a brief explanation:

With the arrival of autumn and the approach of winter, temperatures drop, air humidity increases, our homes are no longer as well-ventilated, and the days get shorter.

Mushrooms are fungi, so when you find them growing on kokedamas or potted plants, it's a sign that you might be overwatering , that the space where they are located lacks ventilation , and that your kokedamas and plants may not be getting enough sunlight .

Fungi thrive in dark, humid environments, so unless that's the environment your plant prefers, mushrooms are an indication that you need to change your care methods.

  • Reduce watering: Allow the substrate to dry out completely between waterings;

  • Place your kokedama closer to a window to get more sunlight.

  • Ensure good air circulation. You can also take your kokedama outside so it can air out.

  • You can also treat your plant with a systemic antifungal product following the package instructions. Antifungals aren't especially effective against mushrooms, but they can help a little with mushrooms and help prevent the growth of other types of fungi.

  • However, mushrooms don't last very long on plants, but if you don't like the look of them, you can remove them with gloves and throw them away (don't eat them).

  • Another very common factor is mold in your kokedama, which can appear as small white spots or even specks.

You should thoroughly clean your kokedama with a clean, damp cloth and follow the other instructions and tips we've provided here.
