Como fertilizar o seu kokedama FIOS

How to fertilize your kokedama threads

Spring is approaching, and we can say that the period is officially open to fertilize our kokedamas.

Why should we fertilize our kokedamas?

Plants need three main nutrients (identified as macronutrients):

N - nitrogen - Responsible for the production of chlorophyll, which gives our plants their green color. It is essential for the development of roots, stems, and leaves and aids in the absorption of other nutrients.

P - phosphorus - Ensures the health and vigor of plants. Stimulates their growth and is essential for the development of fruits and flowers.

K - potassium - Important for the effectiveness of plant biological processes. Increases resistance to pests, cold, or drought.

How do I know which fertilizer to use?

On the labels of fertilizers available for sale on the market, there are ready-made and specific products that we can buy and use, for example for orchids, indoor plants, outdoor flowering plants, fruiting plants, etc.

However, you should choose fertilizers that are suitable for the type of plants you will be applying them to.

How do I know the correct dosages to use?

The label on liquid fertilizer always indicates the recommended dosage.

However, we advise reducing the recommended dosage to prevent excess nutrients, which will have a worse effect on plants than not fertilizing at all. It can cause leaf burn and consequently lead to the death of your plant(s).

How can I tell if my plant is showing symptoms of nutrient deficiency?

Here are the most frequent ones:

  • Yellowing of some leaves;
  • Reduced growth of stems and leaves;
  • Regular appearance of pests and diseases;
  • Absence of flowering;
  • Fragile, dull leaves and stems.

If any of your kokedamas or plants are experiencing any of these symptoms, remember that providing nutrients to the soil is very important for the plant to regain its vitality.
