What to do to make preserved moss last over time
One of the most frequent questions we get about preserved moss is whether it needs maintenance and how long it lasts.
Discover everything about preserved moss in this article and how to keep it healthy andvibrant for many years!
One of the great advantages of preserved moss and plants compared to natural plants is that they do not need water or sunlightbecause they are preserved/stabilized.
The maintenance of this preserved material is ZERO!
However, to ensure that your preserved moss frames/panels remain vibrant for years, there are a few tricks you can do to prolong and enjoy your biophilic artwork for many years:
1. PLACE THEM IN A STRATEGIC LOCATION
90% of the lifespan of the moss on our panels/frames depends on where it is placed.
The main thing to keep in mind is that preserved plants and moss DO NOTlike moisture and are ONLY FOR INDOOR ENVIRONMENTS.
Normal humidity levels should be below 70-80%to maintain the good condition of your preserved moss.
Excess moisture can cause preserved plants to develop mold or water droplets, causing them to drip/sweat their natural dye and thus lose their intense color more quickly.

2. AVOID CONTACT WITH WATER
If you choose to install a toilet, for example, it should always be protected with glass or acrylic.
We have frame solutions with glass or acrylic that protect areas near water.

3. AVOID DIRECT SUNLIGHT
This requirement is very important for the preserved moss to last for years.
Direct sunlight damages moss.
- It discolors and dries out the moss;
- It completely alters the colors and textures of the moss and preserved plants, thus modifying the entire initial harmony of your preserved biophilic work.
Ideally, place it in a location with indirect natural light, or even in spaces that don't receive natural light at all.

However, there are always solutions to prevent contact with direct sunlight, such as using curtains or blinds during the hours of the day with the most intense sunlight.
4. DO NOT PLACE NEAR AIR CONDITIONERS OR RADIATORS
It is NOT advisable to place the moss frame/panel near a radiator or air conditioner,as this can alter humidity levels and cause changes in the color and texture of the moss and preserved plants.
5. DUST CLEANING
Preserved moss has antistatic properties and therefore does not attract dust or insects over the years.
However, if you want to clean it after some time, you can use a duster and wipe it with very gentle movements.
Note: Only if absolutely necessary.
6. TOUCH GENTLY
One of the characteristics of this art using preserved moss is its textural and sensory aspect.
Therefore, touching and feeling the different natural textures of moss and plants is recommended. Just be careful, as moss and preserved plants are delicate and can be damaged very easily.

7. Revitalize your preserved moss frame or panel.
Some types of moss tend to discolor a little sooner than others, as they have a natural tendency to dry out faster.
If after a few years you notice that the moss or preserved plants are starting to change, please let us know and we can arrange to supply or replace only that area in order to keep your piece of art preserved for longer.
